Background | CD40 is a member of the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) receptor superfamily, which includes the low affinity nerve growth factor (NGF) receptor and CD95/Fas. CD40 is the receptor for CD40 ligand expressed on activated CD4+ T cells. Clark E.A. et al. have reported a mAb binding to a 50 kDa B-cell surface marker (BP50) which augments B-cell activation and proliferation. This B-cell marker was CD40.
