• Gene Summary: This gene encodes a histone-lysine N-methyltransferase that may be involved in the methylation of histone H3. In anthropoid primates this gene is a fusion gene of a SET histone-lysine N-methyltransferase and a mariner (MAR) family transposase. In all other species this gene contains only the SET domain.   Transcript Variant: This variant (2) uses an alternate internal exon, compared to variant 1. This difference results in a distinct 5' UTR and causes translation initiation at an alternate start codon, compared to variant 1. The encoded protein (isoform 2) is shorter and has a distinct N-terminus compared to isoform 1.
