The encoded protein mediates activation of various kinases and may function in cytokine and growth factor receptor signaling and cellular transformation. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2009]
Transcript Variant: This variant (2) differs in the 5' UTR and contains an alternate exon in the 3' coding region, which results in a frameshift and an early stop codon compared to variant 1. The resulting protein (isoform 2), also known as SH2B adaptor protein 1 beta, is shorter and has a distinct C-terminus compared to isoform 1. Variants 2, 3 and 4 encode the same protein.
