Recommended Dilution Can be used in precipitating techniques as immunoelectrophoresis and single or double radial immunodiffusion to identify the presence of alpha-1lipoprotein in human plasma or other body fluids or to determine its concentration. The presence of non precipitating antibodies has not been assayed. This does not exclude the use of the antiserum in more sensitive non-precipitating antibody-binding techniques if proper controls are included.
Reactivities Human
Host Goat
Clonality Polyclonal
Immunogen Lipoproteins form a heterogeneous system of protein-lipid-carbohydrate complexes which provides highly efficient transport of phospholipids, glycolipids, fatty acids, mono-, di- and triglycerides, cholesterol and cholesterolesters. Concentrations in normal human serum is 230-490 mg/100 ml. Freund’s complete adjuvant is used in the first step of the immunization procedure.
Specificity The reactivity of the antiserum is restricted to lipoproteins. In immunoelectrophoresis and radial immunodiffusion (Ouchterlony), using various antiserum concentrations against fresh normal human plasma three precipitin lines are obtained. No reaction is obtained with any other plasma protein component or serum.
Cross-reactivity: The antiserum does not cross react with any other component of human plasma. Interspecies cross-reactivity is a normal feature of antibodies to plasma proteins since they frequently share antigenic determinants. Cross-reactivity of this antiserum has not been tested in detail.
