Background | Myeloperoxidase (MPO) is highly expressed in neutrophils and polymorphonuclear luekocytes. MPO is expressed as a dimer in regular neutrophils with a 140kDA. The glycoslated form of MPO has a molecular weight of 92kDa and when undergoes a final glycoslyation, MPO forms subunits of 60kDa and 12kDa. In recent studies, MPO was shown to be involved in the initiation and progression of cardiovascular disease. |
