Background | HDAC5, or histone deacetylase mHDA1, is responsible for the deacetylation of lysine residues on the N-terminal end of the core histones H2A, H2B, H3 and H4. Identifying histone acetyltransferases reveals much needed insight on how these enzymes regulate transcription, and further elucidates their pivotal role in cell cycle progression and other developmental events. HDAC5 shuttles between the cytoplasm and nucleus, depending on its nuclear export sequence, and shares interactions with BAHD1, KDM5B and MEF family proteins. While HDAC5 has many biological implications, recent studies have proposed its key involvement in synaptic plasticity and memory formation (PMID: 22914591), as well as its connection to various cancers (PMID: 22301920, PMID: 22944197). |
Synonyms | HD5; NY-CO-9 |
Note | This HDAC5 antibody is useful for Western blot, Immunocytochemistry/Immunofluorescence, and Immunohistochemistry on paraffin embedded sections. In Western blot a band was observed ~ 130 kDa. In ICC/IF nuclear staining was observed in A431 cells. Prior to immunostaining paraffin tissues, antigen retrieval with sodium citrate buffer (pH 6.0) is recommended. |
