Gene Summary The protein encoded by this gene is a member of a family of mRNA binding proteins that have been shown to bind to several different mRNAs in mammalian cells, including insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA. Generation of two different isoforms by alternative translation initiation at an internal start codon, has been described for this gene (PMID:22427968). [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2012]
Transcript Variant: This variant (1) uses an in-frame downstream start codon, and encodes a shorter isoform (2) missing N-terminal 68 aa compared to isoform 1. It lacks a conserved N-terminal RNA Recognition Motif (RRM) and is predicted to differ functionally from the full-length isoform (PMID:22427968). Sequence Note: The RefSeq transcript and protein were derived from genomic sequence to make the sequence consistent with the reference genome assembly. The genomic coordinates used for the transcript record were based on alignments.
