This protein has been shown to deplete reactive oxygen species, and thus play an important role in protecting cells from oxidative stress. The expression of this gene is induced by oxidative stress. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been described. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
Transcript Variant: This variant (2), also known as CSR2, differs in the 3' end-region, which includes a part of the coding region, as compared to variant 1. The resulting isoform (2) has a distinct and shorter C-terminus, as compared to isoform 1.
