Gene Summary | This gene encodes a receptor belonging to the Ig superfamily that is expressed on myeloid cells. This protein amplifies neutrophil and monocyte-mediated inflammatory responses triggered by bacterial and fungal infections by stimulating release of pro-inflammatory chemokines and cytokines, as well as increased surface expression of cell activation markers. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been noted for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jun 2011] Transcript Variant: This variant (3; also known as TREM1-sv, PMID:11922939) is missing an internal coding exon compared to variant 1. This results in a frame-shift, and a shorter isoform (3) with a distinct C-terminus compared to isoform 1. This isoform, lacking the transmembrane domain, is likely secreted, and may function as a regulator of myeloid activation (PMID:11922939). Sequence Note: This RefSeq record was created from transcript and genomic sequence data to make the sequence consistent with the reference genome assembly. The genomic coordinates used for the transcript record were based on transcript alignments. |
