Gene Summary | The protein encoded by this gene interacts with the transcription factor myocardin, a key regulator of smooth muscle cell differentiation. The encoded protein is predominantly nuclear and may help transduce signals from the cytoskeleton to the nucleus. This gene is involved in a specific translocation event that creates a fusion of this gene and the RNA-binding motif protein-15 gene. This translocation has been associated with acute megakaryocytic leukemia. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2013] Transcript Variant: This variant (2) differs in the 5' UTR, lacks a portion of the 5' coding region and initiates translation at a downstream start codon, compared to variant 1. The encoded isoform (1) has a shorter N-terminus, compared to isoform 5. CCDS Note: NM_020831.4 is set to be removed from CCDS14003.1 in the next CCDS release. It has been updated to NM_020831.5 following an extension of the 5' CDS that reflects the use of a GUG start codon. The updated protein is longer at the N-terminus by 100 amino acid residues. The CDS of NM_001282660.1 remains unchanged. |
