• Specificity: This Mouse anti Sheep CD230 (Prpsc) antibody, clone 2G11 recognizes the prion disease form of prion protein known as CD230.
  This antibody is specific for PrP^Sc. This clone does not appear to immunostain the normall cellular PrP expressed in heathly sheep tissue sections resulting in specific labelling of ovine PrP^Sc. This antibody was raised against a synthetic peptide (146-R¹⁵⁴R¹⁷¹-182 ) of the Ovine PrP peptide and specificially recognizes the R¹⁵¹-R¹⁵⁹ sequence.

• Background: The prion protein is encoded by the PrP gene and is constitutively expressed as the normal cellular isoform PrPec by many cell types. Transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSE) are neurodegenerative diseases in which the accumulation of the abnormal PrPesc isoform in tissues, of the lymphoid and central nervous system, is thought to be a key event. Studies suggest that PrPesc is the causative agent of transmissible spongiform encephalitis (TSE) but this has not been confirmed.
