• Background: Zap-70 (Zeta-Associated-Protein 70), a member of the Syk family of protein tyrosine kinases (PTK), is responsible for the selective activation of T cells. Zap-70 is activated by phosphorylation of Tyrosine residues 292/315/319 by either Src PTKs or autophosphorylation. Altered Zap-70 expression is associated with immunodeficiency diseases, including chronic lymphocytic leukemia where it correlates with disease state and progression. ZAP70 is a tyrosine kinase that associates with the T-cell antigen receptor zeta chain and mediates lymphocyte activation. Defects in ZAP70 cause immunodeficiency diseases such as selective T-cell defect.
