Background | TIF1beta is a member of the Transcriptional Intermediary Factor 1 (TIF1) subfamily. TIF1beta contains a RING finger, B box, Coiled coil, PHD/TTC, and bromodomain. TIF1beta is a corepressor for Kruppel-associated box (KRAB)-domain-containing zinc finger proteins and plays a critical role in early embryogenesis. TIF1beta acts as a transcriptional mediator by binding liganded nuclear receptors, including retinoic acid (RAR), retinoid X (RXR) and estrogen (ER) receptors. TIF1beta associates with both heterochromatin and euchromatin, causing gene silencing by both HP1 binding and histone deacetylation. |
