Gene Name Homo sapiens p21 protein (Cdc42/Rac)-activated kinase 1 (PAK1), transcript variant 1
Background PAK1, a PAK (STE20) type protein kinase, is an effector for the small GTP binding proteins Cdc42 and Rac in the regulation of cell motility and morphology. The activated protein has been shown to act on a variety of targets, including actin-binding protein filamin A, myosin light chain kinase, histone H3 and the stress-activated protein kinase JNK1. The PAK1 gene has been mapped to chromosome 11q13, a region of amplification in a subset of estrogen receptor positive breast carcinomas prone to metastasis.
Synonyms PAK 1, PAK-1, Alpha-PAK, PAK alpha, p21-activated kinase 1, p65-PAK
