Recommended Dilution | Flow Cytometry: Use 10 µl of 1/50-1/100 diluted antibody to label 1x10e6 cells in 100µl. Immunohistochemistry on Frozen and Paraffin Sections: (1/100). This product requires antigen retrieval using heat treatment prior to staining of paraffin sections; Sodium citrate buffer pH 6.0 is recommended for this purpose. Positive Control: Human tonsil. Immunoprecipitation. Western Blot: Detects a band of approximately 80kDa in HeLa cell lysates. |
Reactivities | Human, Monkey |
Host | Mouse |
Isotype | IgG2a |
Clonality | Monoclonal |
Immunogen | Stimulated human leucocytes. |
Specificity | This antibody recognises CD44, a 90kD type I transmembrane protein which is otherwise known as HCAM or CD44s. Various isoforms of CD44 exist. The 90kD standard form, recognised by this antibody, is expressed on leucocytes, erythrocytes, white matter of the brain and some epithelial cells of the breast and small intestine. Antibodies produced by clone 156-3C11 recognise epitope 3, which is a protease resistant epitope on the CD44 molecule. |
Formulation | Phosphate buffered saline pH 7.4 containing 0.09% Sodium Azide as preservative. State: Purified State: Liquid purified IgG fraction. |
Concentration | lot specific |
Purification | Affinity Chromatography on Protein G. |
Storage | Store the antibody undiluted at 2-8°C for one month or (in aliquots) at -20°C for longer. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing. |
Stability | Shelf life: one year from despatch. |

Background | CD44 is a receptor for hyaluronic acid (HA) and is involved in cell-cell interactions, cell adhesion and migration. CD44 also participates in a wide variety of cellular functions including lymphocyte activation, recirculation and homing. CD44 expression may be up-regulated upon some carcinomas, and it has been speculated that this may be related to metastatic potential. |
Synonyms | LHR, MDU2, MDU3, MIC4, CDw44, Epican, ECMR-III, HUTCH-I, Heparan sulfate proteoglycan, Hermes antigen, Hyaluronate receptor, PGP-1 |
