Background | CD48 (BLAST1) is an activation-associated, glycosyl-phosphatidyl-inositol (GPI)-anchored cell surface glycoprotein expressed primarily in mitogen-stimulated human lymphocytes (1, 2). As a member of the CD2 family, CD48 interacts with CD2 as a low-affinity ligand on the surface of antigen-presenting cells (2, 3). In addition, it is a high-affinity ligand for 2B4. CD48–2B4 interactions can modulate T cell, B cell, and natural killer (NK) cell functions and cross-talk (4). |
