Background | Serum tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase exists as two isoforms (TRAcP5a and 5b). They are derived by differential-posttranslational processing of a common gene. Serum TRAcP5a is secreted by macrophages and dendritic cells and increased in many patients of rheumatoid arthritis. Serum TRAcP5b is produced from osteoclasts and elevated during bone resorption. In addition, this antibody labels hairy leukemia cells with high degree of sensitivity and specificity. |
