Background | The ? subunit protein is an auxiliary subunit of the CaV (voltage dependent calcium) channel multimer complex. ?1 was first identified in skeletal muscle as a part of the proteins complex purified as the DHP receptor. Eight ? subunit isoforms were identified in mammalian genoms and they share some sequence as well as structure homology.1 ? subunit contains four transmembrane helixes, with intracellular N and C termini. Usually their association with the pore-forming a1 subunit results in reduced current amplitude.CaV?2 is also known as stargazin, and interacts and regulates the activity and trafficking of AMPA glutamate receptors. |
