Gene Name reticulon 4
Background Nogo-B is a novel myelin-associated, intermediate-length splice variant of Nogo belonging to the reticulon family. It is a multidomain neurite growth inhibitory protein containing several discrete regions with growth inhibitory functions and is a component of the CNS myelin that prevents axonal regeneration in the adult vertebrate CNS. Nogo-B along with NGBR mediated chemotaxis in HUVECs and induced tube formation in 3-dimensional cultures. It is mostly found in intact blood vessels, smooth muscle cells, and endothelial cell, with its N terminus oriented extracellularly and is a regulator of vascular homeostasis and remodeling. It plays an important role in sporadic and familial amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
