Gene Name transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily M member 8
Background TRPM8 (TRPP8, LTRPC6) is a transient receptor cation channel that has been shown to be a major cold receptor in sensory neurons. TRPM8 has been theorized to be activated by cold temperatures, voltage, calcium store depletion, some lipids, and also the compounds that produce cooling sensations such as menthol or icilin. TRPM8 is aberrantly over-expressed in pancreatic cancer along with colon, lung, breast and skin cancers, and is proposed to be required for cellular proliferation.
Synonyms LTRPC6; TRPP8
Note This TRPM8 antibody is useful for Western Blot where a band is seen ~127 kDa, Immunocytochemistry/Immunofluorescence, and IHC-paraffin embedded sections. Prior to immunostaining paraffin tissues, antigen retrieval with sodium citrate buffer (pH 6.0) is recommended.
