Gene Name CD86 molecule
Background CD86 is a 70 kDa type I transmembrane glycoprotein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily of cell surface receptors. CD86 is expressed on resting monocytes and dendritic cells, activated T and Natural Killer cells, and is rapidly induced on the surface of activated B-cells, suggesting that it is a major CD28 ligand and may play an important role for the co-stimulation of T-cells in the primary immune response. CD86 is also expressed by malignant Hodgkin and Reed Sternberg (HRS) cells in Hodgkin's disease.
Synonyms B7-2; B7.2; B70; CD28LG2; LAB72
Note Recommended for the inhibition of the mixed lymphocyte reaction (MLR) and the binding of soluble CTLA-4 (CD152)-mulg fusion protein to CD 86 (B7-2).
