Background | Hypocretin (also known as orexin) is a neuropeptide hormone produced in the hypothalamus that exerts important influences over sleep, arousal, appetite and energy expenditure. High levels of this neurotransmitter are associated with increased appetite, improved mood, and enhanced wakefulness. Low or nonexistent levels of hypocretin are found in the cerebrospinal fluid of people with type 1 narcolepsy. This antibody was generated by immunization of rabbits with Hypocretin coupled to a carrier protein. |
