• Background: Insulin-like Growth Factor I (IGF-I), also known as Somatomedin C, is a hormone similar to insulin. It is produced primarily by the liver as an endocrine hormone, which effects a wide range of cells and plays a key role in cell proliferation and growth. IGF- I is also linked with tumor cell growth, due to its inhibitory effect on apoptosis. This antibody was generated by immunization of rabbits with IGF-I coupled to a carrier protein.
