Background | Pancreastatin is a 49 amino acid peptide found in many cells of the neuroendocrine system. It is produced from the proteolytic cleavage of its precursor, Chromogranin A [Chromogranin A (240-288)]. It is localized to insulin-containing beta cells, glucagon- containing alpha cells, and somatostatin-containing D cells of the pancreatic islet. Pancreastatin inhibits release of somatostatin upon glucose stimulation and it may also control carbohydrate metabolism and hyperglycemia. This antibody was generated by immunization of rabbits with Pancreastatin (1-51) / Chromogranin-A (264-314) coupled to a carrier protein. |
