• Background: Big Endothelin-1 (Big ET), is a 38-amino-acid peptide and biological precursor of the potent vasoconstrictor Endothelin-1. It is cleaved to yield endothelin-1 and the C-terminal fragment (22-38) via the activity of a membrane-bound metalloproteinase called endothelin-converting enzyme (ECE). Endothelin is produced by several cell types including vascular endothelial cells, Mesangial cells and kidney cells. Big Endothelin-1 can be hydrolyzed by chymase to generate endothelin 1 (1-21) in vitro. This antibody was generated by immunization of rabbits with Big Endothelin-1 Fragment (22- 38) coupled to a carrier protein.
