Gene Name apelin
Background Apelin (also known as APLN) is a peptide that in humans is encoded by the APLN gene. It is the endogenous ligand for the G-protein-coupled APJ receptor that is expressed at the surface of some cell types. Apelin is widely expressed in various organs such as the heart, lung, kidney, liver, adipose tissue, gastrointestinal tract, brain, adrenal glands, endothelium, and human plasma. Apelin-17 is a potent diuretic neuropeptide counteracting vasopressin actions through inhibition of vasopressin neuron activity and vasopressin release. This antibody was generated by immunization of rabbits with Apelin-17 coupled to a carrier protein.
Synonyms APEL; apelin; XNPEP2
