Recruited to the vicinity of DNA breaks by TP53BP1 and plays an accessory role to facilitate damage-induced chromatin changes and promoting chromatin relaxation. Required for efficient DNA repair and cell survival following DNA damage. [UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot Function]
Transcript Variant: This variant (1) lacks an alternate coding exon compared to variant 4. The resulting isoform (b) has the same N- and C-termini but is shorter compared to isoform a. Variants 1 and 3 both encode the same isoform (b). Sequence Note: The RefSeq transcript and protein were derived from genomic sequence to make the sequence consistent with the reference genome assembly. The genomic coordinates used for the transcript record were based on alignments. CCDS Note: The coding region has been updated to shorten the N-terminus to one that is more supported by conservation.
