Gene Summary This gene encodes a protein which is found in the 7SK snRNP (small nuclear ribonucleoprotein). This snRNP complex inhibits a cyclin-dependent kinase, positive transcription elongation factor b, which is required for paused RNA polymerase II at a promoter to begin transcription elongation. A pseudogene of this gene is located on chromosome 3. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, May 2012]
Transcript Variant: This variant (1) lacks two 5' exons compared to variant 3. These differences cause translation initiation at a downstream AUG and result in a protein (isoform 1) with a shorter N-terminus compared to isoform 2. Variants 1 and 2 encode the same protein (isoform 1). Sequence Note: This RefSeq record was created from transcript and genomic sequence data to make the sequence consistent with the reference genome assembly.
