Gene Summary | This gene encodes a member of the patatin-like phospholipase domain containing protein family. Members of this family are phospholipases which catalyze the cleavage of fatty acids from membrane phospholipids. The product of this gene is a calcium-independent phospholipase. Mutations in this gene have been associated with mitochondrial myopathy with lactic acidosis. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, May 2015] Transcript Variant: This variant (5) differs in the 5' UTR and coding region and uses a downstream start codon compared to variant 1. The resulting protein (isoform 3) has a shorter N-terminus compared to isoform 1. Variants 5 and 6 encode the same protein. Sequence Note: This RefSeq record was created from transcript and genomic sequence data to make the sequence consistent with the reference genome assembly.
