Gene Summary | The GALNT13 protein is a member of the UDP-N-acetyl-alpha-D-galactosamine:polypeptide N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase (GalNAcT; EC 2.4.1.41) family, which initiate O-linked glycosylation of mucins (see MUC3A, MIM 158371) by the initial transfer of N-acetylgalactosamine (GalNAc) with an alpha-linkage to a serine or threonine residue. [supplied by OMIM, Apr 2004] Transcript Variant: This variant (2) differs in the 3' UTR and contains an alternate exon in the 3' coding region resulting in a frameshift compared to variant 1. The encoded isoform (2) is longer, and has a distinct C-terminus, compared to isoform 1. Sequence Note: This RefSeq record was created from transcript and genomic sequence data to make the sequence consistent with the reference genome assembly.
