Background | Neuropeptide Y Receptor Y1 (NPY1R) is one of the most abundant neuropeptides in the mammalian nervous system and exhibits a diverse range of important physiological activities, including effects on psychomotor activity, food intake, regulation of central endocrine secretion, and potent vasoactive effects on the cardiovascular system.. Two major subtypes of NPY receptor (Y1 and Y2) have been defined by pharmacological criteria. NPY1R and NPY2R encoding mouse type 1 and type 2 neuropeptide Y receptors, have been mapped by interspecific backcross analysis. NPY1R is required for central physiological and pharmacological NPY-induced analgesia and that its activation is both sufficient and required for the release of substance P and initiation of neurogenic inflammation. |
