• Background: The Src family is composed of nine members in vertebrates, including Src, Yes, Fgr, Frk, Fyn, Lyn, Hck, Lck and Blk. Src-family kinases transducer signals that are involved in the control of a variety of cellular process, including proliferation, differentiation, motility, and adhesion. Blk is a 505 aa protein, known as a nonreceptor tyrosine-kinase of the Src family of proto-oncogenes that are typically involved in cell proliferation and differentiation. The protein has a role in B-cell receptor signaling and B-cell development. The protein also stimulates insulin synthesis and secretion in response to glucos and enhances the expression of several pancreatic beta-cell transcription factors. Blk protein is expressed exclusively by B lymphocytes.
